The effect of Fertitab-S on reproductive parameters by sows
Type of trial: Trial report
Location of trial: Thailand
Trial period: 5 Months (July-November)
Experimented animals: 1128 Sow (2 Strain Type Large White x Yorkshire)
Trial aim: Assess the effect of XVET Fertitab-S on reproductive parameters of sows.
Material and methods:
A total of 1128 sows in one breeding house were divided into 2 groups:
- Treatment group: 98 sows received 4 tablets (morning and evening) of Fertitab-S for 5 consecutive days after weaning.
- Control: 30 sows received normal feed.
All sows had same age (First Parity) and were reared under Evaporative housing conditions. The animals were fed 5-6 kgs of feed per day.
Observed and recorded parameters:
- Weaning to estrus interval
- Farrowing rate
- Total number of born piglets
- Number of piglets born alive
Remark: This farm had a problem with a low percentage of sows coming into estrus within 7 days after weaning.
Results and conclusions:
The recorded parameters are shown in Figure 1 and 2.
As seen in the figures above, the administration of Fertitab-S improved not only the number of animals that got into estrus after weaning in a normal interval, but also the farrowing rate and total number of born piglets, while number of piglets born alive didn’t present a significant difference.
