Short & Medium Chain Fatty Acids as NAGP
With the ban or limitations over antibiotic growth promoters, or coccidiostats, animal health industry will face new challenges in the upcoming years. In addition to quality improvement programmes such as biosecurity, HACCP implementation, or creating disease reduction processes, the use of technical feed additives stands as an important pillar, a key tool for the production of safe food. Apart from feed sanitizing agents, organic and inorganic acids are a useful tool to decrease the pathogen count as much as possible in the drinking water and in the feed. The activity is also useful in the first part of the digestive tract, namely until the small intestines, however, acidifiers have limited activity because they are buffered according to the pH of the certain region of the digestive channel.
Short and medium chain fatty acids and their esters have similar efficacy as organic acids, however, the activity is not limited. Their activity is extended along the entire intestinal channel and moreover, they become systemic and
attack agents that may be present in other parts of the organism. Short and medium chain fatty acids are known to be fighting against certain infection-causing factors, and as well against some protozoal agents that are common in animal production.
Our Proposal
NovoVital: Pathogen Pressure Management
NovoVital Indication and feature
NovoVital is a combination of monoglycerides of fatty acids of Butyric (C4), Caprylic (C8), Capric (C10) and Lauric acid (C12). – Fatty acids can interfere with some fat-enveloped viruses, or the cell membrane of certain Gram-positive bacteria and protozoa that can be commensals in the intestines. NovoVital helps to decrease attachment, colonization, and multiplication of these disease-causing agents. Thanks to the pH independent action, NovoVital acts through the entire gastrointestinal tract. Hence it supports intestinal integrity and promotes the activity of the beneficial flora which results in villi growth, and as a positive consequence, better feed efficiency. Monoglycerides in NovoVital are also active along the entire organism, as they can be absorbed through the intestines, and still act in tissues where the blood circulation may reach. NovoVital is selective over pathogens and has no negative influence over the beneficial flora. It is stable and non-corrosive. As a further benefit, the pleasant
smell improves intake. Additionally NovoVital does not require biliary salts for digestion. This provides an easy source of energy for the cells of intestinal mucosa.
Commercial trial result
Novovital was trialed in a commercial broiler farm in Bangladesh. The farm was split into two parts: G1 group (control group) with 1000 broilers with no treatment; G2 group (treatment group) with 2000 broilers was fed with same protocol with addition of NovoVital. NovoVital significantly improved animal condition and also the integrity of the digestive system resulted in higher weight gain, better FCR and livability in general. The benefits were more obvious especially in the last period of life as the consolidated improvement has made the genetical potential of the broilers more obvious. Additionally the group that was not treated with NovoVital experienced coccidiosis, where as the treatment group did not show signs. Although NovoVital group had a respiratory disorder, still the performance was better than the untreated group. This clearly shows that the treatment with NovoVital has made animals resistant and still performing.
